Ayurvedic resin from Commiphora mukul

Guggul (Commiphora mukul) is a natural resin derived from the bark of the Mukul tree, a shrub-like tree that grows in the dry regions of India.
The resin, also called Guggulu, has been praised for thousands of years within the Ayurvedic tradition, traditionally described as a warming herb.
After carefully tapping the bark, a golden-brown resin flows out, which is then purified and used as the basis for many classic Ayurvedic preparations.

How to use Guggul capsules:

  • Take 1-2 capsules per day, preferably during or after a warm meal.
  • Use the product consistently for several weeks as part of a consistent daily routine.
  • Do not exceed the recommended daily dosage.
  • Guggul is naturally fat-soluble. For optimal absorption, it is recommended to take it with a fat-containing meal, such as dishes with coconut oil, nuts or avocado.
  • In Ayurveda, Guggul is often combined with Trikatu (a mix of ginger, long pepper and black pepper) in contexts where Agni (the digestive fire) is central.

Guggul in Ayurvedic teaching

Guggulu is one of the oldest and most respected herbs in Ayurveda. The resin is related to myrrh and forms the basis for a range of classical Ayurvedic preparations, collectively known as Gugguls.
In these formulas, the Guggul resin is often combined with other herbs to support its action and to balance the body on multiple levels.

One of the most famous combinations is Triphala Guggul.
Triphala (literally: "three fruits") consists of:
- Amla (Phyllanthus emblica) – rich in natural antioxidants and vitamin C
- Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) – traditionally used to support natural cleansing
- Bibhitaki (Terminalia belerica) – considered a balancing herb within all three doshas

The combination of Triphala and Guggul is considered in Ayurveda as a formula that helps purify, revitalize, and energetically balance the body.
According to Ayurvedic teaching, this composition has a tridosha-balancing effect, which means it helps keep Vata, Pitta, and Kapha in balance.

FAQ

What does Guggul do according to Ayurveda?

Within Ayurvedic teachings, Guggul is traditionally described as a warming herb often used in lifestyles where balance is central. In Ayurveda, it is frequently mentioned in contexts where circulation and metabolism play a role and is traditionally associated with the concept of "Ama" (undigested substances) within Ayurvedic teachings. Furthermore, within this tradition, it is linked to inner purity and vitality. It is often used in combinations such as Triphala Guggul and Yograj Guggul.

What is the best way to use Guggul?

Take Guggul capsules preferably during or after a warm meal. In Ayurveda, it is recommended to take Guggul together with warming herbs, such as ginger or black pepper, for better absorption. It is usually advised to use it for a period of at least 6 to 8 weeks as part of a course or routine.

What are the side effects of Guggul?

Guggul is generally well-tolerated with normal use. In rare cases, it may cause mild digestive upset or skin irritation, especially in sensitive individuals. Do not use during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or if you have liver problems.

What is the difference between Guggul and Triphala Guggul?

Guggul refers to the pure resin of the Commiphora mukul, while Triphala Guggul is a classic Ayurvedic formula in which Guggul is combined with three fruits: Amla, Haritaki, and Bibhitaki, for a broader balancing effect. Both are traditionally used to support vitality and metabolism.

Is Guggul suitable for vegans?

Yes, Guggul is completely suitable for vegans. Our Guggul capsules contain no animal ingredients and come in a vegetable HPMC capsule. They are therefore suitable for a 100% vegan lifestyle.
